Healthcare Professions Internship Program

East West Medical Group offers a hands-on internship program for graduate and undergraduate students looking to fulfill academic internship credit requirements. Interns shadow our internal medicine, acupuncture, and chiropractic specialists across a wide variety of chronic conditions, with occasional lectures from our faculty on key medical concepts.

Most interns are Health Science, Biology, Kinesiology, or other health-related majors enrolled in an upper-division internship course and actively pursuing a healthcare career.

The Experience

Intern volunteers provide non-medical assistance to doctors, patients, and clinic staff, including:

  • Shadowing doctors and other health professionals before, during, and after patient encounters

  • Answering general questions from patients and visitors

  • Sorting and stocking supplies

  • Assisting with our in-house herbal medicine pharmacy

  • Supporting special projects and research presentations

  • Getting exposure to the business of healthcare

Intern Responsibilities

  • At least 18 years old

  • Able to commit to a minimum of 90 hours

  • Complete both a phone and in-person interview

  • Attend orientation before starting, plus scheduled lectures throughout

  • A sincere interest in helping others, with professionalism and a positive attitude toward patients, visitors, and staff

  • Able to perform physical tasks such as lifting, kneeling, walking, or standing for extended periods

  • Appropriate attire

  • Available for one of two shifts: 9am–12pm or 1:30pm–6pm

We regularly receive more applications than we have room for each semester. While anyone who meets the requirements above may apply, preference is given to applicants who:

  • Are enrolled in a course requiring 90+ internship hours

  • Can fully commit to both shift times (actual days/shifts are based on availability)

  • Have prior experience in a medical or healthcare setting — paid, volunteer, or as a long-term patient

  • Are actively pursuing a healthcare career after graduation
